As we welcome in 2017, what are your reading goals? Have you joined the Goodreads challenge? Are you hoping to read more Canadian? More fiction? More non-fiction? Are you hoping to listen to more audio books? Whatever your goals are, it is a fresh start and there will be reading suggestions here!
What are my goals? I have set a stretch goal of reading 125 books in the new year. I will continue my challenge to read (and meet) more Canadian authors. It is terrific timing to read more Canadian as we celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday!
We have such amazing authors to be proud of! I will continue to pick away at the CBC’s list of 100 Novels that Make Us Proud to be Canadian and will enjoy the CanadianContent 2017 Bingo challenge on Goodreads.
For the month of January, I will be participating in Resolution Non-Fiction reads challenge, of course with a Canadian approach and am planning on reading:
- Up Ghost River (Edmund Metatawabin)
- Weology (Peter Aceto)
- Everyone’s An Artist (Tite, Kavanaugh & Novais)
- The Reason You Walk (Wab Kinew)
I am looking forward to my in person book club and for the month of January we are reading:
- The Heart Goes Last (Margaret Atwood)
And lastly, a couple of Canadian suggestions to start the year off:
- The Medicine Walk (Richard Wagamese) – my favourite book of 2015! Any choice by Richard Wagamese would be a great start in 2017!
- A Number of Things (Jane Urquart) – celebrating 150 Canadian items for Canada’s 150th birthday
- And the Birds Rained Down (Jocelyne Saucier) – translated from French to English

Omg. I looked up the Bingo card on your Goodreads group. There are some high maintenance people in that group!
Did you make up that card yourself? It’s really excellent.
My first one will be The Party Wall. It was odd but very descriptive. Also I read it on my phone so maybe the breaks in the story would be easier to follow in print but I found the transitions within chapters to be jarring.

There are some VERY dedicated readers too. I did put together the card for this year, it was fun to think about a whole year of CanLit. Glad to hear that you are reading along and still curious about what might be different about the French version of The Party Wall. Thanks for the new year wishes and right back at you!!!
