As we approach Halloween, let’s get for the ghosts and goblins by reading some spooky, suspenseful novels. Horrors and thrillers are generally not my the books that I choose but here are a few suggestions that I have read over the past 3 years and would suggest to get readers into the mood for Halloween. Feel free to comment below and add your favourite frightful reads for Halloween:
- Carrie (Stephen King)
- Firestarter (Stephen King)
- The Ocean at the End of the Lane (Neil Gaiman)
- Gone Girl (Gillian Flynn)
- Bellman & Black (Diane Setterfield)
- The Girl on the Train (Paula Hawkins)
- Harry Potter (J.K. Rowling)
- The Life We Bury (Allen Eskens)
- I’m Thinking of Ending Things (Iain Reid)
Just finished The Witches of New York by Ami McKay-it’s perfect for Halloween!

Great suggestion. This is on my TBR list as she is coming to the Grimsby Author series in November!

“The Keeper of Lost Causes” by Jussi Adler-Olsen is a dark, Scandinavian police procedural with a twist. It starts slowly but builds to a real psychological horror story that will revisit your sleeping mind.

I’ve only recently discovered Neil Gaiman! I’ve been really eyeing The Ocean at the End of the Lane!!! Even though Halloween is over, I may make it my next audiobook 🙂
